Lafarge Cement Zambia Plc has launched Powerplus cement targeted at specialised building applications such as high strength concrete structures. And Works and Supply Minister, Mike Mulongoti has advised Lafarge Zambia to produce high quality cement to satisfy consumers. Mr Mulongoti said he had received letters of complaint from contractors on the quality of cement. “As Government we are ready to support you if Powerplus is able to do the job. Itquotes up to you as suppliers to defend your product. The people of Zambia have gone mad in building,” he said. He said Governmentquotes role in the economy is not only to create an environment that supports growth of industries, but to also have an eye on consumers and ensure that they receive relevant and competitive products. “We are delighted that Lafarge has responded to this by continuing to produce competitive products for the market and now launching innovative solutions for the market place. We look forward to more innovative products and services from Lafarge,” he said.
The new product presents solutions to the requirements of a wide range of applications such as precast manufacturing, dam and bridge construction, high strength concrete for heavy duty roads and industrial floors. He said it is only by innovation that Zambians will be positioned well for the future. “The launch of this product comes at a time when Government has prioritised infrastructure development, with a lot of investment planned for dams, bridges, stadium, roads, power stations and other Infrastructure,” he said. Mr Mulongoti said a number of these infrastructure works will require the use of products like Powerplus. He said the launch of the product reduces dependence on imported cement to meet certain specialised applicants that will save foreign exchange.
