Market Insight: May 21, 2015


Nigeria

•  ASI -50bps, $27.6mill.
•  Lasaco was the most actively traded counter in the session, after the name traded a total of 1.6bn shares to close at N0.50.

A much better day yesterday thanks to a few decent crosses. We are hopeful that yesterday's interest will spill over into today's session.

Kenya

•  NSE20 -35bps, $12.4mill.
•  The market was fairly upbeat today as EABL, KCB and Safaricom accounted for 69.1% of market activity.

The market started very slow today with the biggest mover barclays down 0.3% on a volume of 766,000 shares to trade at sh 15.25. Most counters remain unchanged compared to yesterday with turnover in the market at the moment only at usd 400,000. EABL continues to show selling interest from foreign investors looking to exit at shs 305. the stock has opened today at shs 304 on a volume of only 2000 shares. The biggest gainer so far today is HF on a volume of 226,000 shares, up 5% followed by mumias sugar which is also up 5% today with sellers now starting to show interest at shs 2.10. NSE continues to see foreign demand and has currently traded 38,000 shares at shs 20.50. Overall, the market looks a bit quiet with most locals funds still out.
