Botswana: DCI +0.09%, USD 12k

Dull session in Gaborone with only USD 12k worth swapping hands today. Sechaba saw 2511 shares trade at 1255t. BIHL was unchanged at 1026t on 2047 shares. Barclays was level at 718t. Choppies, FNBB and Primetime traded at 167t, 290t and 193t respectively.

Egypt: EGX 30 -4.23%, USD 40m

Kenya: NSE 20 +0.61%, USD 3.08m

A below average day with value traded amounting to $3.08m. Kenya Commercial Bank was rather active with a total of 2.78m shares changing hands thanks to a few crosses with locals on both sides of most transactions. BATK continued its recent rally and closed at 369 with a total of 110k shares traded with locals accounting for the majority of purchases. Foreigners dominated both sides of Equity Bank with a total of 1.01m shares traded in the counter. Foreigners were quiet today but remained net buyers and accounted for $980k of total purchases while they accounted for $810k of total sales. The market closed higher with the NSE 20 Index gaining 0.61% to close at 3,704.70.

Mauritius: Semdex -0.09%, USD 436k

The market ended the week in the red with the Semdex and the Sem-7 down 0.09% and 0.11% respectively. NMH lost 1.47% to end the day at Rs67. MCB and NMH traded level at Rs168 and Rs82 respectively. IBL was up 0.63%. Innodis lost 2.97% on 30,000 shares. Medine (O) dropped 4% on only 2900 shares. Caudan fell by 4% on 104,000 shares while ENL Commercial rose by 11% on 13,414 shares exchanged. The Dem fell by 0.11%. A cross of 47k DRBC was recorded at Rs29. The main gainers were Fuel +3.90% and ENL Investment +3.24%.

Nigeria: ASI +0.22%, USD 7.09m

Another exceptionally dull day in Nigeria – a quiet end to a quiet week. On a dead day like this it is incredibly difficult to try and gauge trends and we did see mixed trading throughout the bourse. Banks closed up 57bps with IBTCCB closing limit up and Zenith Bank (+1.46%) the outperformers while UBA (-2.60%) was the largest loser of the larger banks. The tier 1 banks had a mixed day with nothing exceptional to report. NB had a relatively active day with the name closing up 1% at N101. In other news, the Nigerian Aviation Authority suspended Air Nigeria flights until it resolves internal issues that compromise safety.

South Africa: Top 40 -1.61%, USD 1.47bn

The JSE ended the day lower with the Top 40 Index falling 1.61% to close at 30,025 while value traded amounted to USD 1.47bn. Resources were the day's biggest losers with the Index falling 2.80% followed by Industrials and Financials which fell 1.04% and 0.27% respectively. The Rand was trading at 8.43 and 10.56 to the USD and EUR respectively by the time local markets closed.

Zambia: LuSE -0.53%, USD 6k

Absolutely dead in Zambia today with value traded amounting to a paltry USD 6k. The names that traded included CECZ, NATB, SCBL, ZMFA, ZNCO and ZSUG. NATB was the biggest contributor towards turnover with value traded in the name amounting to USD 1.6k. ZMFA was the second biggest contributor towards turnover with value traded in the name amounting to USD 1.3k.

Zimbabwe: Industrial Index -0.24%, Mining UnCh, USD 1.3m

The Industrial index lost 0.24%. Econet dominated the vols with 310,518 shares trading in the name at a stable price of 416c accounting for 93% of the day’s total value of trades whilst trades in the rest of the stocks were scrappy. Foreign participation was hugely on the buy side where $632,427 worth of purchase trades were deemed foreign while on a paltry $1853 worth of sales were deemed foreign. Only nine stocks recorded price movement with fallers dominating the risers and fallers spectrum. CBZ continued to hog the lime light as it continues to fail to find firm ground falling -8.33% to 8.25c. Other losses were seen in PPC -1.92%. Padenga -10%, Interfresh -9.1% and FBCH -7.7%. Gains were seen in TPH that rose +4.86% to 11c, NMBZ that put on +4.17% to 1.25c Pearl that was +2.04% up at 2.5c and Meikles that firmed +0.93% to 14.15c. The mining index was flat at 81.51pts as no trades were recorded in the mining stocks.
