Another slow day on the bourse
The market was rather upbeat today as foreigners were seen to return to the market. Top movers included the usual suspects: Equity Bank (-0.5%, KES46.00), Safaricom (unch, KES16.05), EABL (-0.3%, KES315) and KCB (unch, KES56.50). Centurm closed up 1.6% trading a total of 2.3m shares after releasing positive FY15 results.
Sun joined the festivities as 1.8m shares were crossed in the name at Rs44.00 – this was the total value traded and closing price (+0.3%). Usual frontrunner, MCB gained 1.7% on the back of 129k shares traded whilst it’s banking counterpart, SBM closed flat at Rs0.93 after trading a total of 8.6m shares.
For the second consecutive day we saw a large off-market cross in Seplat at N300 (local seller, foreign buyer). Normal trading was extremely quiet barring some crosses in Guinness (local) and ETI (foreign). Banks ended the day slightly positive with activity focused heavily on ETI (+1.49%, N22.50), GTB (-7bps, N26.95) and Zenith (-21bps, N19.47). Consumers ended the day largely unchanged but outside of the large cross in Guinness (-33bps, N174.23) and NB (+7bps, N150.00) the sector was extremely quiet. Dangcem saw some late action at N175.50.
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
Another dire day in the market from a turnover point of view. Top movers included Econet, Delta, BAT and Innscor.
