The Egyptian market witnessed a slow day, leaving the EGX30 down 0.67% to close at 9745 points on notably low volumes of EGP464 million. HRHO (-1.88%) acquired a 49% stake in EDPR France in a USD208 million deal. SODIC saw some action after investors witnessed an arbitrage opportunity through buying the rights issue (-0.63%) and selling the stock (-6.32%) at the current levels, which leaves them with a profit of around 10%. Foreigners accounted for 22% of market participation as net sellers worth EGP5.8 million, targeting TMGH (-1.66%), ESRS (-0.92%), and COMI (-0.79%).
Foreign investors started the new quarter off skewed to the sell side. Activity was dominated in the likes of EqBnk (-1.9%, KES50.50), KNCB (+90bps, KES58.50) and EABL (+1.1%, KES279) while there was another suspicious trade in BATK. There was also some muted activity in Safcom (-1.8%, KES12.95) and ARML (-3.9%, KES86).
Nothing overly eventful happened today in Port Louis. The main movers in the Sem-7 were MCBG (+71bps, Rs212), NMH (-85bps, Rs88) and ENL Land (-8.26%, Rs50.00).
A better day in Harare with turnover increasing to USD 905k thanks to Econet ($396k), Innscor ($236k) and Pearl ($102k). The market closed the day lower with the Industrial Index falling -0.28%.
