The market was dead.
Some heavy foreign trading late in the session took place on a rather active day in Nairobi. The 2 names which saw the bulk of this action was KNCB (-80bps, KES 58.50) and Safcom (+30bps, KES 14.85) which both saw high foreign action on both sides of trading. There was also a couple of crosses in ARML (mostly local) as the name gained 1.2% to KES 84.50 while Stanchart was also heavily traded by local investors (+1.8%, KES 347). Other large cap names were quiet.
MCBG accounted for 42% of total market turnover, closing the day off at Rs197.50 on a volume of 128.2k shares traded. The other banking heavyweight, SBM finished the day flat at Rs1.01 on a total of 4.3m shares exchanged. Monthly Tourists arrivals increased by 7.6% from January 2014 to January 2015.
Once again the market remains dull with just a couple of crosses lighting up the screens. The banks were weak (-1.04%) with UBA (-4.72%, N3.03) the hardest hit with the bulk of the action took place in Zenith (-38bps, N15.94) and Access (-1.67%, N5.88). Consumers closed the day down by 56bps with some massive crosses seen in NB (-15bps, N131.80) and Nestle (unch, N764.75). Outside of these the market was rather dull.
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
Delta was the only counter on the bourse to see notable volumes, as the stock traded a total of 1,01m shares to close at 116c. Losses in CBZ, Econet and Old mutual dragged the index down, each closing at 9c (-10%), 54.90c (-0.18%) and 233c (-0.85%) respectively.
