A cross in Letshego (1.35m shares) tried to get things going as turnover amounted to $496k while the rest of the market was very quiet.
A massive day in Nairobi today thanks to an extremely large late cross in Equity Bank (both sides local) at KES45.00. After trading around the KES41 level for quite a while now this cross went through at KES45.00. The rest of the market was really quiet with just some mild activity in Safcom (-1%, KES14.40) while Brit also saw a couple of crosses go through (unch, KES16.00).
The market just can't seem to get going from an activity point of view in Port Louis, as turnover failed to break the $1m mark yet again with all the big names very quiet.
The main activity today was some crossing in NB (local buying/foreign selling) – without these crosses the market would have been rather dead as has been the norm in recent weeks. NB closed up 6.76% at N144.16 although this appeared to be a buyer’s fat finger right at the close because the name had traded at N136 all day. This gave the consumers (+3.06%) as well as the index a massive leg up. Elsewhere in consumers we saw Nestle close up 72bps at N836 while Banks continued to fall as they dropped by a further 1.17% on light volumes.
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
A better day in Harare but still nothing to write home about as turnover amounted to $312k with some small action in Econet and BAT.
