An absolutely dire day in Gaborone with turnover amounting to a paltry $23k.
Another massive day in Kenya with foreigners (>85%) yet again the lion’s share of the market. It was really all about 3 names today – Equity Bank, KNCB and Safcom. What was interesting to note was how a number of strong buyers returned to these names including some local buyers. Equity Bank closed up 1.3% at KES39.25. KNCB and Safcom both lost ground slight – KNCB down 2.1% to KES46.00 and Safcom down 40bps at KES13.95. There was also some mild action in EABL (unch, KES295.00).
Activity dropped quite substantially today with turnover amounting to $760k with no decent crosses worth mentioning as 53k MCBG traded while 11m shares changed hands in SBMH.
Some aggressive buying across the board today in Nigeria. The banks had a second consecutive day of impressive gains (+2.90%). At one stage most of the names were up 5% although there was some selling later in the day. Volumes were led by Zenith (+4.97%, N17.31) and GTB (+2.45%, N25.05). The consumers gained a solid 2.88% although outside of NB (+5%, N127.05) the sector was rather quiet. There was also some decent action in Wapco (+1.74%, N103.00).
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
Activity continues to underwhelm in Harare as turnover amounted to $153k.
