The bulk of today’s action took place in the normally illiquid Sefalana (776t). Outside of this there was virtually nothing happening.
Activity dropped off but it was still a solid enough end to the week with value traded amounting to $11.3m with foreigners accounting for the bulk of today's activity. A large foreign cross in Safcom helped drive activity as a total of 57.8m shares traded in the telco. KenolKobil was surprisingly active as a total of 4.91m shares traded as the counter managed to gain 7.6% to close at KES 9.15 after positive news from management on the improving state of the business. The rest of the market was unfortunately rather dull.
Chunky trading in MCBG dominated the session as more than 60% of the total turnover took place in the banking group. MCBG closed unchanged at Rs214 while SBM rose by an impressive 2.94% to Rs1.05. Elsewhere in the Sem-7 the only mover was Terra which lost 1.10% to Rs36.10.
A rather average day in Lagos as value traded amounted to $23.5m. Crosses in the likes of GTB ($5.37m), FBNH ($2.73m), FCMB ($2.67m) and NB ($2.64m) were the highlight of today's session. There was some profit taking in banking stocks after a good run with the Index falling -1.77% with Access (-3.05%), Zenith (-2.34%) and ETI (-2.10%) dragging the sector lower. Consumers (+0.52%) continued to march higher thanks to IntBrew (+2.40%) and Guinness (+1.69%). DangCem was relatively strong and managed to close +1.22% higher.
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
