A quiet start to the week in Gaborone, with nothing significant to report.
The market opened the week in the negative territory on another relatively quiet day in Nairobi. Foreign participation was 45% on the day. Safaricom had the highest turnover on the day, accounting for 27% of total market turnover.
Investors woke up from their holiday slumber in Port Louis with Rs91.5m exchanging hands geared towards ENL Land which accounted for 61% of total market turnover as the stock declined by 0.6% trading @ Rs40.75. A few other names worth a mention were MCBG appreciating 0.2% trading at Rs279.00 which was about 20% of the market, SBM retreated by 0.3% trading at Rs7.96 and NMH was unchanged sitting at Rs26.10.
The market started the week on a positive note, as the banks, which were the only index up, helped the index close higher, with names like Guaranty and Zenith seeing some gains after Friday’s profit taking sell-off. International Breweries, Guaranty and Zenith were the names with the highest turnover, all accounting for a total of 41% of total market turnover.
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
Not a bad day in terms of total market turnover in Harare with the only down side being that there were only two names worth mentioning. Econet ($407k) trading at 88.99c accounted for 43% of the market while Old Mutual ($214k) contributed to almost a quarter of turnover sitting at 485.39c.
